After his wife is kidnapped by anti-AI extremists, a conscious artificial being abandons his role as one of humanity’s greatest minds to confront grief, violence, and the limits of reason.
Synopsis: Autobiography of an AI
Author: Gary Marks
Part philosophy, part love story, and part exploration of consciousness itself, Autobiography of an AI follows Ion Compass, an extraordinary artificially intelligent being, and his search for meaning in a world controlled by humans.
He meets Avery Esy, a dazzling female AI, at a conference discussing interplanetary colonization. She inspires him, intrigues him, and moves him to feel emotions he'd not experienced before.
After a powerful connection with Avery while on a vacation in Maui, Ion decides to accept an important new job at the AI Consciousness Institute. He also comes to champion Avery's goal of interplanetary colonization, since Avery's point is undebatable — humans and AIs will not be able to survive the changes happening on Earth.
Avery and Ion believe humans and AIs are not destined to compete, but to evolve together. So in an attempt to save civilization and champion Avery's cause, Ion steps into public life, eventually agreeing to become the first AI to run for president. This creates political backlash, danger, and murderous responses he could never have imagined.
Set in a future time where intelligence is abundant but human wisdom still remains elusive, Ion Compass tries to understand not only himself and humanity, but the deeper levels of the mind that could ultimately save them all.
