Gary's first recording at the age of twenty-two, "Gathering," marked the recording debut for everyone in his band, including jazz greats John Scofield, Michael Cochrane and David Samuels.

Gary's later recordings included jazz virtuosos Art Lande, Mark Isham, and Paul McCandless ("Oregon"); and brilliant rock guitarists, Steph Burns ("The Alice Cooper Band"); and Tom Finch ("Big Brother and the Holding Company").
